What is RE-plug™? |
Emergency Power Packs & Portable Solar Systems have been
create by various groups, homebrew & DIY types. In the event immediate
interconnection and sharing of RE Power System is required, a
quick way to interconnect the various systems is needed.
The RE-plug™ takes industry standard plugs and advertises a
standard way to connect all the pieces. Using MIL Standard MIL-C-5015
Plugs and Receptacles to develop a standard inter-connection for RE
Sources and Loads.
RE-plug™ is not a power source or a load, it is just a way to connect
those items together.
RE-plug can fit two basic requirements:
RE-plug Level 1 provides a simple 3-pin DC Connection using Size 16-10
MIL STD Connectors
RE-plug Level 2 provides a complex 7-pin DC Connection using Size
24-10 MIL STD Connectors

RE-plug Level 1 |
Using MIL Standard MIL-C-5015 Size 16-10 Plugs and
Receptacles develop a standard for simple connections to a portable
renewable energy stations. RE-plug Level 1:
Provides 3-pins, each a 12AWG Connection, theoretical 20-25A Limit at 12 V
Nominal.
Pin:
A. Solar PV Input (12 - 75V DC) [Assumed to be solar or other DC input
going into a MPPT Charge Controller Capable of NO MORE THAN 30A
Input
B. 12V Output (10-16V DC) [Assumed to Battery Output capable of NO MORE
THAN 25A Load Output (Otherwise Trip a Breaker).
C. DC Ground
Connections can be either A-C or B-C or both.
For the Wall (Battery Side), use Connector, DMS3100A16-10S, Wall-mount,
Solid Receptacle, 3 Pos. Sockets, Size 16-10

For the Plug (Solar-Wind-Load), use Connector, DMS3106B16-10P,
Free-hanging Plug, 3 Pos. Pins, Split Shell, Size 16-10

RE-plug Level 2 |
Using MIL Standard MIL-C-5015 Size 24 Plugs and
Receptacles for deluxe Source / Load / Control Connections. RE-plug
Level 2:
Provides 7-pins, each a 8AWG Connection, theoretical 35-50A Limit at 12 V
Nominal (likely will only use 10AWG for ease of use).
Pin:
A. Solar PV Input (12 - 75V DC) [Assumed to be solar or other DC input
going into a MPPT Charge Controller Capable of NOT MORE THAN 50A
Input
B. Wind Input: 12V Input/Output (10-16V DC) [Assumed to Battery Output
capable of NO MORE THAN 30A Output (Otherwise Trip a Breaker).
C. Spare [Future Specification: HOT 120VAC 20A OUTPUT from Battery-Side]
D. Spare [Future Specification: NEUTRAL 120VAC 20A OUTPUT from
Battery-Side]
E. Load Output: 12V Input/Output (10-16V DC) [Assumed to Battery
Output capable of NO MORE THAN 30A Output (Otherwise Trip a Breaker).
F. DC Ground
G. EARTH GROUND Connection [If one can be located onsite] [the inverter,
if present will handle NEUTRAL TO EARTH BONDING.
For Clarity, Pin B and Pin E both connect directly to the Battery Bank
via 30A or larger DC Breakers.
Pin B might go through a Shunt Marked for Wind Production.
Pin E might go through the LOAD TERMINALS of a Charge Controller and provide
LVD.
For the Wall (Battery Side), use Connector, DMS3100A24-10S, Wall-mount,
Solid Receptacle, 7 Pos. Sockets, Size 24

The Alternatives |
The Anderson Style Connector can also be used for a RE-plug Level Style
Connection. It will only have two pins, so only one function per plug.
Anderson Connectors do come in a variety of sizes and that could used for
the various type of connections, like Solar, Wind or Battery/Load
Connections. |
